Obituary of Joseph J. Ghignone
Joseph J. Ghignone, 100, of Monroe Twp. passed away on Friday September 23, 2022 at his home surrounded by family. Joseph was born in Nizza Monferrato, Italy and immigrated to the US at a young age. He was raised in Staten Island, upon his retirement, he moved to The Villages in Florida with his wife of 75 years, Ida, where they lived for the next 20 years before moving to Monroe Twp. several years ago. Joseph proudly served his country in the US Army in the Philippeans during WWII and continued to serve in the Army Reserves for 2 decades. He was employed for over 20 years for the NYC Department of Sanitation and then as the head bartender at Le Cirque in NYC during its heydays in the 80's where he had the opportunity to meet and serve countless celebrities, including Frank Sinatra, Nancy Regan and Liza Minelli among countless others. During his lifetime he was able to see Babe Ruth, Lou Gherig and the Yankees Murder's Row play. He married his perfect match, Ida, and celebrated 75 years together, buying a house, raising a family and watching them grow up and succeed. Joseph was an avid golfer, loved playing and watching sports of all kinds.
He is survived by his loving wife of 75 years, Ida (nee Lottero) Ghignone of Monroe Twp., one son, Richard Ghignone and his wife Linda of Houston, TX, his daughter, Linda Marotte and her husband Rocky of Monroe Twp., and his grandson, Jon Robert Marotte and his fiancee Jillian Clemente of Staten Island.
A memorial gathering will be 11:00 am - 12:00 pm on Thursday November 3, 2022 at the M. David DeMarco Funeral Home, Inc. - 205 Rhode Hall Rd., Monroe Twp., NJ 08831 - 732-521-0555.
